My birthday has come and gone, alas! I had a great birthday, despite having to spend the day in class which was a bit strange because I never have class on my birthday! But it’s okay, cause my friends waited around for me and took me out for an awesome italian dinner afterwards….so so tasty. Oh the night before I went out with my family for a birthday dinner too, but my brother has his birthday the day before mine so we usually do a combined family dinner. We ate at a Japanese restaurant which was also really tasty. Ah I love good food. Nom nom nom.

Anyhoo, most people always just ask ‘What did you get?’ …burger cushion, burger phone, burger lollies (one of my friends thought a burger theme was appropriate! ahha), a necklace with a ‘one inch’ ruler on it which is a reference to SEASONS OF LOVE ZOMG, money, oh one of my friends made a tegan and sara cut-out card, a friend baked me a cakee!!!…annnd this morning I just got a huge package and I opened it up to find THE SARA SHOES! Oh. My. God. So awesome!!! My sister & her bf, and my brother got me them!! So excited to go out so I can wear them, and one day I’ll have to try the ‘one tegan and one sara’ look. :P I THINK IT’D BE AWESOME.

mmmmm

mmmmm

Ha see! They’re all sitting on the bun of the burger cushion! It’s great :D Anyhoo, that’s all I really wanted to say…that I had a great birthday!

…just hold onto that feeeeeling!
How good is Glee? I love it! It’s like, an awesome way to have musical theatre in a tv show. They’re saying people aren’t going to just burst into song to ’speak’ to others, but it’s more focused on the cast actually performing musical numbers. Which in my opinion will keep the show from getting too gimmick-y, and stay away from being HSM. Elements of the show also reminded me of Arrested Development, especially the parts where the camera work is seemingly ’spying’ on the people, when it zooms in all over the place. /shrug. I’m so looking forward to the rest of the series, and I can’t believe we have to wait so long :(

So I’m on my uni break at the moment, just enjoying the time off. I go back for a winter subject in about 2 weeks or so (not really paying much attention to that), and so far it’s been pretty good. I’m starting to think that I should be brainstorming some ideas etc. for my major project next semester…and I think I will start doing that. If there’s one project I don’t want to be behind on, it’s this one. Looking forward to the winter subject, oddly enough, maybe because it’s advanced video media, so it sounds like fun. I hear it’s a lot of After Effects work, so I’m hoping that I learn a lot of handy techniques, which I could then use for my major project. Anyhoo. I did pretty decent last semester, in terms of results. Still waiting on one more result, but overall I’m pretty happy with how I did. I got this crazy idea that I could graduate with an honors grade…we’ll see how that pans out.

True Blood is back! I had completely forgotten what happened in the season finale, so there was a lot of ‘oh yeah…’ moments when I was watching the premiere. I’m not totally sure how I feel about it. They have their work cut out for them after having a good first season, and a lot of tv shows go awry when they start off so well…it takes a little while to find their footing again. e.g. LOST, Prison Break (although..it never really got S1 good again), Heroes. Or maybe it’ll produce a better season than its first, like House did. And then eventually die in a hole. *mutters* Still upset over House. Moving on.

I bought The Sims 3, and I’m a little addicted to it. i.e. I play a little everyday. Haha. I just want to make money and build bigger houses! Is that too much to ask?! There are tonnes more features in this version, although there are still some things that are lacking in my opinion, but I guess they can’t do everything. I’ve started using the sims store to get ‘customised content’ and actually I’m quite impressed with the system they’ve developed. It’s so easy to use, quick too.

Also, small note on movies I’ve watched. I’ve seen heaps recently, mainly because we have so much of our download limit to burn up due to the lack of TV shows to download.. One that stands out is Bolt! Animated movies are not for kids. Okay. Bolt is friggen adorable. And I want one. It might be one of my favourite 3D animated films… Disney/Pixar > Dreamwork

Okay, this post is long enough. I just need to remind myself tomorrow morning that I have to start being productive, and stop waking up at noon. :P

this is my winter song..

So You Think You Can Dance is back on!! And good timing too, just when I had lost so many shows… ah it’s so good! And SO much better than the Australian version. <3 Cat Deely > Basingthwaite. This song by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson - Winter Song, was used twice in the last episode and I loveeeeeeeeee it. So pretty, I love Sara Bareilles..and now I’m doing to download Ingrids album to listen. I have a good feeling about it :D And then I found out that the song was used in the GA finale…which…I’ll let slide. Despite how much I hate that show, they do have good music. Ha! Although I do feel like they should keep their grubby hands off good music and not taint it with the show! But then it does really good things for the artist..so whatever. BLAH.

UNI IS OVER WITH! Well I still have a presentation to do, but that doesn’t require any work since that project is completed. And I didn’t even die over my last couple of projects, so I’m glad. It was overall a pretty peaceful semester in terms of going crazy out of my mind over assessments. I think I only did one all-nighter. Now I have a few weeks of break and then I start a winter subject….smart move arinne *rolls eyes* But I had to do it, I was somehow 6 CP behind and needed to finish off my submajor anyway. So that’ll be cool.

I bought RENT LIVE ON BROADWAY on blu-ray off Amazon.com. The BR (is that the accepted term?) was reasonably priced, but the SHIPPING cost an arm and a leg, but I don’t really mind. It’s RENT for christs sake. I remember buying the DVD for when it first came out for $40 off eBay. It comes to around the same amount, and it’s Blu-Ray…so yay. I also got um. um. Twilight. um. um. yah. I would have bought it locally, but apparently the Australian version has really bad sound quality, so I had to buy the overseas version. I’m looking forward to checking out the special features!! :D Also, I saw pictures of them filming New Moon in Italy, and I do have to admit that it looks good. The red cloaked people EVERYWHERE in the square, and Bella running across the fountain etc. It was the most visual part of the books for me, and if they screw it up I might hurt somebody. Thrax em good.

It’s so cold in Sydney. It’s ridiculous. I’m really full on Salmon, Green Beans and Sweet Potato, but now I want ice cream. And it’s cold, and doesn’t make sense and /cry. NEAPOLITAN!!!

Week Twelve. And I still feel good, that is, in reference to my uni work. It’s not that I’ve created any work that I’m particularly crazy about, but I do feel like I’m getting into my stride. Which is pretty good timing, considering I’ve got major project next semester. Nervous? Incredibly. Excited? YES. Which in itself, is weird. Even if it’s momentary, I’m happy to know that there may come a time when I may see myself as a real designer one day. Validated.

I watched Star Trek today. I liked it, I didn’t love it though. And I really wanted to love it, I really did. It had Jennifer Morrison, enough said. But still, I just…somehow expected more. Granted there was SO much hype about it, and all I heard was positive reviews about it, so that must have affected my judgement. Although, I am by no means a Trekkie, so I guess I couldn’t really expect to get all the references and details which probably made it amazing to real fans. It had a decent plot, but I never really felt connected to any of the characters, I don’t think it went deep enough. Anyhoo, the russian dude was really cute. Ha!

Ahhhh, I’ve only just gotten around to listening to other Regina Spektor songs, like..I’m on my second one. But I have to say I’m loving her already. I love her voice….husky/breathy = wins.

Last night I finished rewatching The Con. It just reminded me how much I love Tegan and Sara…and wish that I could just hang out with them and watch them make music. They are the shit.

Haha omg, Spektor keeps making me smile with her music. Yay, thank god. I hate it when you find a song you really like and then listen to the artists other songs and are extremely disappointed. That is definitely not the case here… ah, I feel a new favourite artist rising!!

I hate House. I’ve stuck it out over the years, out of pure loyalty. But seriously, the end of season 5, and the past 2 seasons, have simply just been bad. I’m sick of waiting, and I cannot see how they can get out of this one. Mistake 1: Putting the original team on the sidelines. And also, for not even giving them any screentime, despite having invested THREE years of character building etc. etc. Mistake 2: Cuddy. They fucked up her character, and everything that was decent about her is gone. She’s in charge of a HOSPITAL? Are you kidding me? AND THEN GIVE HER A CHILD? CMON. Wtf. Mistake 3: Throwing everything out the window, and turning into Greys Anatomy. I can’t even justify anymore how House is better than GA. And that is really disappointing. This isn’t even about House/Cameron, although that is definitely part of it, it’s just the overall quality of the show was lost. Ah it’s upsetting. House was my (currently onair) favourite show, and that’s just..sigh.

J.J. Abrams is so much better to me. So much better. LOST and Fringe? Absolutely no complaints. Both finales I loved excessively. Both seasons I was captivated fully. I’m happy to have these two shows to remind me that not all TV is dies in the ass. (Although Fringe is still a baby!) LOST finale was CRAZY. WHICH I LOVED. I feel like we just got it back, and now it’s gone again! YIKES. Fringe went into the alternate universe realm, which would usually be a DEAL BREAKER (30 rock…more on you later!!) but I am onboard with it. In the final scene, Agent Dunham went to the alternate universe and ended up in the TWIN TOWERS. BALLSY ABRAMS. BALLSY AND I LOVED IT. I thought it was really cool.

30 Rock. I freakin’ love this show, and I freakin’ love Tina Fey. This is by far the funniest show on tv at the moment. The last 4 or so episodes have been pure gold. SLANKET ANYONE? Also the finale was amazing, all those music artists!! Ahahaha give a kidney.

Anyway, we all know I could continue talking about TV for a few more thousand words. So I’ll stop. SID (SHUT IT DOWN)

i hear in my mind, all these voices

Apparently, uni resumed this week. I attended say, 5 hours of class. It was great. Also, I only seem to have time to blog when I really shouldn’t have time to blog. Not during the 2 weeks I spent at home on my mid-semester break doing absolutely nothing, no, not then! Only when I really should be doing work. Ah, the wonders of procrastination, or lackof, I guess.

I’ve gotten really into this BBC series called Mistresses, and if you haven’t heard of it, or you’re turned off by the name of the show. Don’t fret. It may be a misleading title, they only cheat like, once in each episode. SO really.. /gives up trying to defend them. I don’t know. I love the four main characters, and even though you don’t agree with their actions etc. etc. the show manages to get the audience to completely sympathise with the women and sort of shed some new light on the other side of the story. Then again, it’s not all about affairs…it really isn’t! There’s just the loveliest little story that I am ridiculously obsessed with, and like, have been rewatching scenes of ever since I started (well over a week ago!). It’s being described as a Sex and the City type of show, which it really ISN’T. There’s a reality to the series which I really love and enjoy.. ah! There’s only been 2 seasons (since it started in ‘08) and there’s 6 episodes to a season. Damn you British and your short seasons! I want more!!

Anyhoo, because of the show, I have also become obsessed with three songs. DOWNLOAD THEM NOW!

Regina Spektor - Fidelity
Nouvelle Vague - I Melt With You
Sigur Ros - Untitled #1 (Vaka)

Also, I discovered that Sigur Ros released an entire album of “untitled’s” called ( ) and it’s pretty much 8 different versions of the same song. I really like it… I may have to look into more of these crazy foreigners.

I love Anna Torv.

I love Rent. Earlier I rewatched the ‘making of’ feature on the dvd for only the second time ever. The first time I cried like a little baby, but THIS time around, I cried like a 4 year old little girl. It was terrible. I just…the whole Jonathan Larson thing gets me weeping. It also completely renews my love for Rent. I really need to get a copy of the live broadway version they filmed….I NEED IT NOW!

Anyhoo. Parramatta Eels won. It made my day :)

Ok, so it’s Easter. I guess that’s a thing. But I am also on my mid-semester break. Hooray!

I had a pretty fun past couple of weeks, as I have seen Jenny Lewis perform twice. Jenny Lewis. That girl was NEVER going to tour down here and then I saw her twice, in two weeks. I love it. She is quite simply, an amazing performer. I was kind of upset that the doormen, both times, took my awesome video camera, so I was unable to record any of it in good quality. But I did take photos/videos of her concert on my phone, and since I was practically on the stage (I was right at the front!!) I got some pretty decent ones. Also, my phone camera has 8MP. lol.

enny Lewis @ The Metro Theatre 07.04.09

Jenny Lewis @ The Metro Theatre 07.04.09

I pretty much cannot BELIEVE she played Melt Your Heart. I was talking to a friend before the concert and she told me she hardly plays it (or maybe she was exaggerating :D) So I wasn’t really expecting it. And then whammo! Melt. Your. Heart. I could actually read the setlists that were taped up, but when I first looked at it I didn’t see it. And then I took a really close look and saw, and my jaw dropped (as they say). It was amazing!!!

Anyway, this post could easily turn into a long rant about my new-found adoration for Jenny, but it won’t be.

Oh yeah, I got really far behind (haha one week) on TV because I was so focused on doing my work, which was pretty weird, but I’ve been watching for the past few days, and it’s all still so good! I have got to say, I really enjoyed the Sarah Connor finale…this past season has been a bit blahhhh, but I think they wrapped it up well. Cameron is back to saying funny things, so that’s a plus. Speaking of Cameron, WTF is going on with House?! Hahahahhaahaha. It was SO random. Kutner killing himself? I guess yeah yeah it all kind-of makes sense, but seriously, he could have just LEFT. I don’t know whether to applaud the house writers (like they even deserve any praise post-season 3) for using the ‘you-don’t-see-suicide-coming’ angle, or if to get angry because they just went for the drama. I also can’t believe Kutner (haha or Kumar…he has no real name) is going to work in the White House. lol.

I also finished The United States Of Tara, which I really love btw. It’s an awesome show, and I was weary at first as to whether Diablo Cody could pull it off, but it’s done really well. I love the vocab she uses, like ’sudoku’ to insult Japanese people. Srsly, funny. Toni Collette is also really amazing in it, she pulls off 4 different (well, 5!) characters SO well. I especially love Buck, hahahhaha. The kids in it are awesome as well. Awww, little Marshall. *pats his head*

Dollhouse, Dollhouse, Dollhouse. (that’s the same word, 3 times!) Joss Whedon, you deliver. You always do. I looooooooooove it when tv shows do episodes back to front, and follow seperate plot-lines throughout the episodes, with it all eventually linking up and making sense. I think it’s such an interesting method of story-telling, and it makes the audience feel connected moreso. I love it. Although Joss does seem to master it in the most recent episode.

As a side note: Go the Australians. Srsly. We are kicking ass on American tv. As it should be.

Just a quick one today. I’m more tired than I should be at 6.43pm at night….stupid. I blame work calling me at 9.55am. THE NERVE!!

Anyway. The trailer for Where The Wild Things Are was released yesterday, and it has shot to the top of anticipated movies list! There’s a lot of mixed opinions about it, but all the negative ones out there I have to say are wrong. If you can’t see how brilliant this film may be, then what is wrong with you? The monsters look absolutely stunning, some of the most realistic monster-like CGI I’ve seen. I love the look of them. I need to go out and buy a new copy of the book, thankfully I can see myself reading it before its release :P Unlike my failed attempts of Atonement, Watchmen etc.

even now I can smell your clothes..

Ok, I’ve been trying to show these to things to everybody and anybody.

First is designer // model …if you vaguely have any interest in design, you should find this hilarious. And also, it’s made by my favourite people, Digital Kitchen! So check it out!

Next is an amazing stop-motion animation from Kirsten Lepore.. I’m not too sure how I stumbled upon it, but I just did. There is simply nothing that I don’t love about it! Sweet Dreams

Ok. So that covers the design part of what I wanted to blog about. I wanted to also share a new Dashboard Confessional song, which I’m really excited about because I think it’ll be on their upcoming album. I can’t wait till we hear new stuff from them…I have to admit I wasn’t too satisfied with The Shade of Poison Trees…so I’m looking forward to more of their ‘old’ sound. Whatever that might be :P Go here to download ‘Even Now’ free!

Now onto uni. Hmmmmmm. I’m only doing two subjects this semester, so nothing is really bogging me down and making me go crazy…yet. I’m delving more into New York and film for my research subject, and it’s actually getting a little interesting. Which is weird, because I never find research interesting. I must really love new york! Also, I have 3 hour web classes on a Thursday night, and I can honestly say, in all my years of study, there has never been a more boring class. It’s not even the fact that I may already know what the tutor’s talking about, it’s just so dry and boring the way he teaches. I dunno..I don’t want to be hard on the guy. I look forward to getting down to the actual design process though. Things should start to get better then. And now I panic about how quickly time is moving: OMG WHY IS IT ALREADY WEEK 5?!?!

Hotness is always the tiebreaker.

till we fall asleep tonight.

Back at uni, nothing much has changed with that place. Or how it is conducted. I just have a lot less contact hours then I am used to, with only 8 proper hours, and then an optional 2. Ha. I’m probably not making the most of my extra time at the moment, but I’m hoping it’ll all come in handy when things get more hectic later on. Actually, I already have a couple assignments due next week, so I should get started on those.

America was a lot of fun, and I still miss it a little. Just the ‘no obligations whatsoever’ kind of feel was nice to have…and also the shopping was great, and that’s coming from someone who claims not to be much of a shopper. Anyhoo, I’m hoping to go back sometime soon…leading me to my nice segway.

NEW YORK. I swear this year I’m going to go. I’m even using it as a topic for my Research subject this semester, so I’m pretty much going to be immersing myself with the city and if that doesn’t cement my trip, then I don’t know what will! Granted it’s my last year of study, and that I actually won’t have that kind of obligation to attend to anymore, the end of the year is looking pretty good for holiday time!! But I’m also thinking, that I don’t want to just ‘holiday’ there anymore, I want to live there. God knows why. It’d be great to just find a job there, *any* job. (within reason…check, no dodgy night work.) I’m not independent, I’m not the designer I want to be, I’m not really ‘making my way’ as it is. If I went away, I could become that. Ha. I’ll keep these thoughts on the backburner, and see what comes of it.

In my attempt to get back into the realm of design, and in the inspired mind set for uni, I’ve been visiting Motionographer and Submarine Channel daily again. I always get amazed at the stuff I see on there, it’s actually mindblowing. I want to know how to reach that level! I just want to share some of the recent stuff…

I have to say that I am in love with the visuals created in these tv spots. The vibrancy of the colours, combined with the hand-drawn aesthetic is working really well, and it doesn’t look too bubblegum-esque. I also love how the people interact with their environment, and the songs are kinda cute as well. Heh.

Now. This guy is a student, who created this for his graduate project. I’m in my final year and will be doing my graduate project, and it is outrageously beyond me how this guy can be so talented!! Ha. If I could create just a fraction of what he managed to do, I would be ridiculously happy and pleased with myself, but that just seems crazzyyy. Sigh, why can’t I just be awesome?

p.s. LOST. I’m so happy to have you back in my life. The season is only 4 epiosdes in, but I’m completely into it as I have been in the past. Especially this time travel stuff, and yes it’s kind of off-the-walls ridiculous, but I love how they manage to put in the details. And how the plan stuff episodes ahead to have them explained a little while later. I love continuation, and I think they’re great at it.

24. OH MY GOD. Is all I can say. The latest episode in the two-parter was just sit-on-the-edge-of-my-seat-with-eyes-and-mouth-wide-open. I could not do anything else but watch what was going on. I was completely engaged and found myself screaming at the screen at certain points. I love that.

I love L.A.
